Doggone It! Tybee’s Leash Cutting Celebration Cancelled Due to Weather
Tybee’s Dog Parks Leash Cutting Ceremony, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd, at 10:30 am has been postponed. Although Fay should no longer be a real threat by then, potential rain, and the large amount of rain that has fallen already, has put the damper on the intended party. Volunteers and staff will doggedly carry on in pursuit of a caring canine facility, and we will send out the hounds to announce a new date…

She came, she blew lots of rain and wind, she's still sticking around, but that's ok because we really do need the rain. The winds are howling tonight and bands of rain, but still nothing close to a hurricane.
The Sea Turtle Nests are ok but the Marine Science Center is keeping an eye on the nests that haven't hatched yet...

I wrote a note the other day about my older son turning 21. Well - yesterday (8/16) was the big day and it turned out great. Colin LOVED the blue crabs and we had a good old fashioned East Coast crab feast. In fact, we couldn't finish them all so we will have a repeat today.…

I cannot believe it! It was just yesterday that my oldest son Colin was born, and now I turn around and on August 16th he will be 21!!!!!!!!!!
Every summer we went to the beach for a vacation at Bethany Beach, Delaware with our family - Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie (Diane of Mermaid Cottages), cousin Kate and friends. We spent idylic days playing on the beach and in the ocean, evenings were spent eating blue crabs and corn on the cob. We would walk the boardwalk, listen to musical acts at the bands…

My husband, son and I first visited Tybee, Savannah and Beaufort in 1998. Although married years and years, we'd never taken a real vacation. Believe me, getting away from it all was absolute bliss. We're both architects and adored the scale and design of these magical towns, with our 4-year-old in tow. We decided we would make this area our annual destination. Once we left, we'd spend the rest of the year awaiting our next summer visit. Back home, we read everything we could get our hands on ab…

Every year my family meets at Tybee Island for a family vacation. We are from MO and found out about Tybee through a friend whose father had been stationed at Tybee with the Coast Guard. From the moment I stepped foot on Tybee I fell in love. It is amazing how one small place can have such an impact on a life. I hope to one day make my home there, after retirement in just a few short years. My students get tired of hearing about Tybee but that doesn't stop me. This year we discoverd how charming…

Just wanted to say Hello! Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've never stayed at one of your beautiful cottages, though I've seen them. I've been to Tybee many times. Tybee is my most favorite place on earth. Maybe through this blog I can share a lifetime of memories and stories about my times at Tybee.
It was the title of Mary Kay Andrews' book, "Savannah Breeze" that caught my eye a few years back, so I just had to read it, and I've been hooked ever since. I've read them all now! How ironic…

We were recently down for a week of fun in the sun and R&R. It was a great time !!
We rented bikes from Tim's Beachgear and cruised the island. Did some jet skiing, people watching, shopping, sunbathing, a lot of drinking and eating of fresh seafood. N Beach Grill and Spanky's had the best margarita's--the Killa Rita was killa. Spanky's had good and plentiful food, AJ's had GOOD food, even though you're going to have a wait. Sundae Cafe for very good food as well. Good sunsets at AJ's and D…

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be on Tybee Island this weekend!!!!!!
It's Memorial Day Weekend and it seems it doesn't matter where I live, it rains on this most special weekend! When I was a kid growing up in Maryland, everyone headed to the beach for the big Memorial Day Weekend that kicked off summer. And it seemed it ALWAYS rained (at least for part of the weekend). When I became an adult, I stayed home. The traffic - who can forget the miles, and miles of back up on Route 50 heading toward th…

Oh how I wish I could be on Tybee right now. I'd be heading off to the beach to lay in the sun (with sunblock, a big floppy hat and a great book of course), and maybe even swim in the ocean. The temperature is supposed to get to 105 here in Los Angeles today. Even for California, that's HOT!!
So, as the temperature goes up here, I am going to try and transport myself in my mind to the fun and relaxation that only Tybee Island can provide. In fact, I think I'm going to go get my bathing suit on…

Hello from California! Yes - you see it correctly --- California --- My husband Tim and I live in Los Angeles but own a cottage on Tybee.
Our cottage is named Surf Puppy. When we bought it 2 years ago and had it restored, we thought long and hard about what to name her and finally came up with what we thought was a perfect fit. The cottage is only 2 blocks from the ocean, it's petite - perfect for a couple or small family, and dog friendly. Plus we have 2 dogs of our own (Rocky our Golden Retri…
