After posting this story on May 27, 2009, I had no idea that my whole world was about to change. You see, in just over 24 hours after posting that story, my Dad passed away. We will never again walk the beach at Tybee together, at least not physically together, though he will always be with me in spirit. My Dad taught me so much about life, about love, about respect for others and for the world around us; if I can only be half the person my Dad was, I know I will make him proud, 'cause my Dad wa…

We've been open for 7 months now and the store is still struggling. I really hope that I can make it succeed. It really is a cute, little shop and I'm so passionate about the cause.
We have been setting up vendor booths at motorcycle shows, craft fairs, bike rallies and other events trying to help get the name out there. We've met some great people and been invited to more events. I'd just like more people to come in and see all we have to offer.
If you're in Atlanta, please come by and see. O…

Every now and then, someone comes along in your life and changes it in a way that you never thought possible. Sometimes you don’t even realize it until many years down the road, when suddenly you have one of those “Aha!” moments, and it all suddenly becomes crystal clear, and you wonder why you never understood it before now. That’s what makes it so powerful and so magical, and why you have carried that special memory with you all this time, just waiting for that “Aha!” moment to strike. For me,…

Hello Everyone!
Hope you are all having a great 2009 so far! Just wanted to share a little "fact story" with you regarding the infamous tree you see us sitting in (see pictures). That's me, my niece, and great niece all taking turns on that wonderful old tree on Tybee! This was their first trip to Tybee, but as I mentioned in my first post, I've been coming to Tybee for many years. Forty-five to be exact! Hard to believe that the first time I sat in that tree, I was five years old, and in the p…

Well, I have been open a full 5 months now. Each month was a little better than the prior month. That was until March. It was terrible! The good news is April is a lot better. We have already done more in April than we did all of March.
The Pink Ribbon Link will be at 2 motorcycle shows on Saturday, April 18th.
The Fifth Annual Rimblin' for Relay Motorcycle Ride in Lawrenceville, GA…

I been painting coastal cottages for a little while, so ventured down to Tybee from St Louis on April 4 with my original watercolors...and with help from my cute nephew Ryan, set up shop for one day outside the Seaside Sisters shop on Hwy 80.
Both Diane Kaufman and Jane Coslick showed up while we were setting up, and later bought several paintings! Yea! Diane has been helping to promote my watercolors, and Jane Coslick is, well Jane is my idol. Jane and I both love coastal architecture-she desig…

So much going on this weekend on the island! Be sure to stop by SeaSide Sisters to see not one but two local artists and all their magic! Pam Martin is here with her vintage trailer all decked out in Valentine magic! New cards, new art mostly red and romantic but as always, l…

I am sitting here up to my ears in tax prep. Not only do I have to get the books ready for the recycling company, but also my rental properties. I stress over every deduction. Will this one be allowed or will it trigger an audit. Questions I am sure that every small business owner has during this time of the year. I am fed up and I am not going to take it anymore. I am so ticked off I can hardly stand it. Each year American taxpayers struggle to have their taxes prepared and paid before the Apri…

We love the fact that everyone keeps adding to our site and sharing their Tybee experiences, be it as a local or as a visitor. Tybee is such a wonderful quirky , diverse and fun place to live and work and hopefully our community here on line helps keep everyone connected! It's a Saturday night on Tybee and there are visitors all over the island. The restaurants are full ( you can't even get into Sundae Cafe tonight with out a reservation) St Michaels is getting ready for their big oyster roast f…

Ok, so I've been tagged to complete this exercise in self-awareness (I guess that's what you would call it) so I decided to give it a try.
1. I am a love-love girl. I just want everyone to get along. I almost always give people the benefit of the doubt. I hate conflict. I don't like mean people.
2. I love Tybee Island. We have such a great, quirky community here. I wouldn't want live anywhere else. I feel great peace here, and I am grateful everyday to be fortunate enough to live here.
3. I l…

Right now I am watching all the festivities going on in DC and wishing I was there with you Diane Kaufman. (I think I just saw you in that sea of millions :) I have such a sense of pride in our country right now, and I have never felt more hopeful. It seems as if the whole tone of Washington has changed almost overnight. Thank goodness. It seems that the mood of the country has changed and that we all have a little more hope than we did a few months ago. No matter if you are a democrat or a repu…

I've been talking to so many guests who are in the process of dreaming about their spring and summer visits to Tybee. Our cottages and homes are starting to fill up for the peak weeks- Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Week, even starting to have some reservations for Pirate Fest in October! The one recurring theme is how cold it is everywhere and how people can't wait to come to our island! I guess we can't complain about "our" version of cold which is cold for us- in the 20's and 30's, but not…

I am going a little stir-crazy being cooped up here in the house. Dr says that I have to be on bed rest at least until next Wednesday and we get the new chest x-ray. I already watched as much tv as I can stand and just how many books can one read? I want to be outside riding my new scooter that I got for Christmas as a present from Shelly. I haven't been able to ride it once. But brighter days are just around the corner, right?
One thing that is good about being sick, is that I have had time to…

Wow, I can't believe that another year has passed. 2008 was such an amazing adventure for me with all my travels (New York, Baltic Cruise, Alaska, Palau) in addition to all the Tybee events. 2008 was jam packed. I expected no less in 2009. We had planned to bring in the new year here on Tybee. Dinner reservations were made at Sundae Cafe. Pre-Fireworks cocktail party on the porch was set. Friends invited. Everything was perfect and ready to go. I couldn't wait. And then, the unexpected happened:…

For those of you that exercise and are on vacation you can come join us at the North Beach any day of the week at 6am. We start our day off right by waking up and going to our lovely Tybee North Beach and getting a great work out in. Three days a week is strength training and the other two days are cardio. What's even better, I provide the weights and the other plus is I do this for donations only. The price is up to you! I know most of you on vacation will not have a yoga mat, but a beach towel…
